(1) Wool sorting term for the stained parts of the fleece, such as the legs and the whole edge of the fleece. (2) Rag sorting term for rags of women's dress goods and men's coat linings containing cotton and wool. ————————
SKIRTING
A cotton cloth used for ladies' underwear. In the finer makes the plain weave is used, the warp is all colour in stripes and the weft is usually coloured. An average cloth has 88 ends and 72 picks per inch, 32's warp, 32's weft. The heavier makes are generally sateen weave, also with all colour warp in stripes in qualities about 92 ends and 52 picks per inch, 34's warp, 16's to 24's weft. This heavy cloth is much used by market and field workers as an outer skirt.
